Deacons in the international media 3 March 2007 Deacons' Managing Partner Lindsay Esler and Elizabeth Cole (Deacons’ Shanghai office) have had an article published in the 26 February edition of the UK legal publication, The Lawyer, under the heading " There's more to China than meets the eye". Lindsay sounds a note of warning for firms entering China that do not take into account its size, diversity and the complexity of its legal sector. Strategies that work in the home country won't necessarily work in China. And some firms even try to take shortcuts which can lead to early failure. Lindsay identifies staff and employment issues, the need to have good connections and strong cooperative relationships with officials, and the to need to understand how business is conducted in China as key management issues in establishing and growing a successful practice in China.
