Deacons’ investment in Information Technology (IT)
28 May 2007
Under the title "Fear of the great IT unknown", the May issue of Asian Legal Business reports on the proceedings of a recent Law Tech conference held in Hong Kong which featured a presentation by Deacons' Managing Partner, Lindsay Esler.
"IT projects in law firms can obviously run into technical problems," Lindsay says, '"however, many of the obstacles which arise are attributable to human frailty." Lindsay's presentation made several recommendations for dealing with potential barriers to the success of IT projects in law firms, including identifying the business need for the investment; creating a perception that the project will create more work; involving lawyers and staff to give them ‘ownership’ of the project, and the commonly encountered resistance to change.
Deacons' significant investment in IT and its leadership role in adapting IT to law firm processes has been widely recognised. For example, for the last 3 years in succession, Deacons has won the top Hong Kong Government award for electronic filing recognising us as the pioneer and largest e-filing firm in Hong Kong.
